A Note on the Photography
When I first started documenting the city, most of the photos were taken from the passenger seat of my colleague's van. Being a one-time apt photography student, I was at first hesitant to publish the photos at all. The shot composure was rushed and thus the framing was not always compliant with the Rule of Thirds that had been so strongly ingrained into my mind. Even worse, the exposure was left to the decision of my camera's sometimes mistaken automatic meter, leaving the photos under and overexposed and depth of field up to luck.
However, as I began to form the idea behind the photo essay, these aspects became more advantageous than offensive. The rushed framing, the quick snap of the shutter before we accelerated through a yellow light, was only more of a reminder that the images I was documenting were in fact transient. The over and under exposure only seemed to heighten the already wonderfully imperfect aesthetics of the subjects I was documenting.
Although now I go on explorations of the city both on foot and by bike as well as by car, I try to stay true to the energy of the original photos. Granted I play more with the exposure and framing when I am not a slave to rules of the road, but stylistically I try to remain consistent.

are you forced to take these photos on foot now that you don't have a getaway driver, or has trav taken my job?
